Labs & Infrastructure

The equipment you need four times a year already exists. Forty minutes away.

Every engineering university in India owns instrumentation that sits idle after six in the evening and all weekend. Udgam turns that idle capacity into something you can book by the hour.

  • Hourly or daily booking
  • Technician included
  • Faculty available separately

Who this is for

Three situations where owning the equipment makes no sense.

01

You need to test a prototype

A printed circuit board, a mechanical assembly, a material sample. One round of proper testing tells you whether to proceed. Buying the instrument to find out would cost more than the product will earn in its first year.

02

You need a two-week stress test

A new component has to run continuously under load before you can ship it. A commercial testing house charges premium rates for exactly the equipment a university already has standing idle.

03

You need a capability once

Something specialised — a particular kind of imaging, a fabrication step, an environmental chamber. It is one step in a process you otherwise handle entirely in-house.

How you find the right one

  • Filter by equipment type, capability, city or state
  • Filter by availability window — evenings and weekends are the norm
  • See the institution's other engagements and their contributor history
  • Compare hourly and daily rates across nearby institutions before you book

Where the money goes

  • Host institutionThe overwhelming majority
  • Platform feeA small share

The overwhelming majority stays with the institution. This is a genuine non-tuition revenue line for them, which is why the listings are real and maintained.

Booking

Five steps, coordinated by the institution's admin.

  1. Find and request

Search by capability and location, choose a window, and submit a booking request with a short description of what you need to do.
  2. The institution reviews

Their admin checks the request against lab availability and confirms whether a technician or faculty supervision is needed for what you have described.
  3. Confirmation and payment

You pay through the platform. The overwhelming majority of the fee goes to the host institution.
  4. The session

Technician time is included in the rate. If you booked faculty supervision, they attend for the hours you specified.
  5. Rating

You rate the facility and the support. That rating is visible to every other MSME considering the same lab.

Why institutions want you there

Your booking is worth more to them than the fee.

Understanding this makes the relationship easier to build — and explains why you will be welcomed rather than tolerated.

It is reportable

Every industry booking is evidence of industry-academia collaboration, which is directly assessed in national accreditation. Your two-day booking helps their score.

It is revenue they do not have

Institutions are almost entirely dependent on tuition. A recurring non-tuition line from equipment already paid for is genuinely valuable to them.

It creates the next relationship

An MSME in the lab meets faculty. Faculty consulting follows. Then a student project. Then an intern. Lab access is often where the whole relationship starts.
